Danielle Shankey is your Labor candidate for Everton.
Raised to value hard work, kindness, and responsibility, Danielle has always been known for her optimism and tenacious work-ethic.
Originally a teacher, Danielle was the first university graduate in her family. Education has given Danielle a firm foundation, and she wants that for Everton families too.
Like many Queenslanders Danielle lost her job at the beginning of COVID-19. Danielle is passionate about making sure working families and local businesses have the support they need to recover. Now more than ever, she believes that we need a good, stable government that will stand up for Queenslanders.
Danielle has worked for over 20 years in government, business and community settings. As a Community Hub Manager, and Community Development Team Leader at Brisbane City Council, Danielle learnt firsthand how important it is to put the needs of Queenslanders first when working with all levels of government and NGOs.
But it was Danielle’s role as a Senior Recovery Officer in the Disaster Management Office, assisting emergency affected communities during the Queensland floods that placed her in good stead to lead Everton through the global pandemic as part of the Palaszczuk Labor team.
Danielle and her husband Jon have lived on the northside for 14 years and have two children. At a time when families are doing it tough, Danielle wants to make a positive difference for her community.
Whether it’s working with not-for-profit organisations, acting on the issues impacting families or supporting local businesses, you can count on Danielle to be a strong voice for you and your local community.
Danielle believes that access to secure jobs, quality healthcare, well-resourced education services, efficient transport and green space for people living in Everton will support a prosperous and resilient community.
