A teacher, international diplomat, and international relations expert, Carl is passionate about the transformative power of education.
Carl’s career started as a primary school teacher in Japan, and later served Australian interests overseas in Fiji and Geneva as a diplomat. He’s also advised national leaders such as former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on international affairs, and taught at universities around the world.
He teaches at the University of Notre Dame, and has previously taught at Bond University, where he is still an Honorary Senior Research Fellow. More recently, Carl took up a role as a primary school supply teacher on the Gold Coast.
Carl’s international perspective will be vital to helping Queensland manage the ongoing global pandemic, and help guide economic recovery plans.
He understands that economic recovery depends on good jobs, backed up by a strong education system, and is why he’s chosen to stand up for his community in Mermaid Beach.
Carl has lived on the southern Gold Coast since 2013, is married to Candice, and his daughter Heidi attends Currumbin Valley State School, where Carl is the Vice President of the Parents and Citizens Association.
